Yellowstone Adventure 2023 - Week Twelve

The twelfth week was pretty much uneventful.  The bright spot for me was the added worker in the grocery.  Ed will be my replacement and Ron had me train him.  He just graduated college and is from Texas.  So my first test for him was working in the pop and beer cooler to stock.  He passed that test really well, even though he did not like the cold. He seems to me to be a good worker and the others who have worked with him agree.  It sure was nice getting some extra help and Scott even admitted that the store work went a lot smoother this week.

We are having a lot of refrigerator issues here lately.  The person that works on them diagnosed them well, but the parts have to be ordered and delivered before they are functioning one hundred percent.  So far it has been two weeks with the fridge issues and maybe this week the parts will come in.  We cannot really afford to have the fridges down for any time whatsoever.

We have reached 80 degrees as a high this week.  With lows of 50 degrees.  So my dorm room is getting rather stuffy, but I am not opening the windows because the mosquitos are still around.  We are selling a lot of sunscreen and after bite medicine.  We are also selling a lot of water and Gatorade.  The Pepsi truck will be delivering more tomorrow and we will need it if these temperatures keep up.

We had two employees caught spending time in the dorm TV room and not working.  They are young guys that really need a kick in the butt to get them in the right frame of mind.  The general consensus is that they were not brought up to appreciate doing a job because you are getting paid.  They had to be talked to about their work ethic and I think they are on strike two.  I really don't think they understand that strike three is packing up and being delivered to West Yellowstone and dropped off.  I have been praying for them to straighten up and take getting paid to do a job seriously.  We will see.

Business has slowed down somewhat from the 4th of July rush, but to me it is still busy.  The bean counters say sales has slowed down somewhat from the highs we have had.  Maybe we have peaked sooner than the bean counters have seen in the past.  We are still selling a lot of grocery and snack items, so I don't see much of a slow down yet.  I still got in 97,163 steps in this week.  So my legs and knees and back don't indicate things have slowed down.  :)

I will have only one more two days off, as my last day is July 29th.  So I decided to go say goodbye to the Tetons on my day off.  So the pictures below are from my trip.  I drove from the Idaho side to the Wyoming side to get to the Tetons over Teton pass.  I have said this before that I really like the Idaho side.  It is green and fertile and the people seem to be friendlier than the Wyoming side.  I am also pleased to report that with the massive snow they had this past winter, the snow melt has filled the lakes back up.  Tewo years ago Colter Bay was dry as a bone and it broke my heart to see that.  When I visited May 21st of this year, the bay was still unusable.  Yesterday when I visited the Bay was full of water and boats and kayaks were traversing from the bay to the lake.  It was so good to see.

I only have ten more working days left and then I will be heading home.  My granddaughter Viviann says she really misses me and that makes my heart warm.  Can't wait to see Cathy and Gracie.  As I know Gracie wants to be exercised, as no one has been doing that while I have been gone.

Thanks for reading and it was pretty boring this week.  Take care and stay well.
